Usually something we greet with a painful sigh, a top chef’s range of ‘branded product’ is often the equivalent of a once formidable rock band churning out Tesco’s top sellers and embarking on highly profitable super-tours. The owner of the “world’s second best restaurant” (number one in 2005), the three-Michelin-starred The Fat Duck in Bray is however, not your average top-chef, so rather fittingly, Heston from Waitrose is no ordinary, predictable big name tie-in. Meticulous to an almost obsessive degree, Blumenthal has been in discussion with the supermarket for two years and insisted that they work with the Fat Duck development kitchen, the results inevitably demonstrate this unwavering attention to detail. Initially a range of 22 products, we believe many more are to come – including a mustard ice-cream, there’s plenty to whet the appetite, what with Beef, Ale & Kombu Pie, high end salts, curiously flavoured mayonnaise, classic sources and a show-stopping Christmas pud, that has a whole candied orange hidden inside. Painstakingly produced and diligently designed by one of the most unique chefs on the world stage, Heston from Waitrose looks set to be a surefire success…
