Some people like their watches dripping with baguettes, water-resistance for up to eleventy hundred metres and a unicorn pelt band. Geneva-based watchmaker Altanus is catering for a person with slightly less extravagant tastes with their Patch paper watch. They mightn’t be turbo flashy, but they are the world’s first biodegradable watch.

The watches come in ten shades and a bunch of patterned designs too – there’s even a flag range so you can get all patriotic about the land that you are, in-turn, kind of saving. (Because it’s biodegradable, you’re pretty much saving the world, right?) Bright, cute and much more eco-friendly and less morally bankrupt than if your timepiece is chockers with blood diamonds.

Fun fact: About ten years ago some lunatic bought a 1933 gold Patek Phillipe watch in a Sotheby’s auction for $11 million.
